I don’t know about you but when my husband is out of town for the night or working late I enjoy popping in an old movie from our collection and watching it after our son goes to bed! One of my favorites is Young Frankenstien! It is hilarious. The humor in the movie is enough to make one pee their pants. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of new good movies to watch, but they just dont compare. Just try it one night, whether you have a spouse to watch one with or not! It is fun and relaxing! So pop up some popcorn and relax to an old movie that you can find in your own colletion!

You get an extra treat this week. Two bits of fun for this week (lucky you). Ok, this comes from the cult TV show “Mystery Science Theater 3000″ and the movie they lampooned has a hero who looks like a stereotypical jock body builder with blonde hair and a sleeveless T-shirt. The character’s name is David Ryder, but the trio watching the film give him comical names, which are all condensed into a minute and a half. Enjoy.

What does this remind you of?

If you’re a fan of George Lucas, this will look familiar. It’s the newest addition to the Death Star International Space Station, the observation deck window.  I just think it’s funny that life is imitating art a little bit.  All that’s missing from this image is Emperor Palpatine’s swivel chair.

I want this job

Who gets paid to come up with this kind of stuff?  I would love to make the money for doing this.  Someone from foxnews.com decided it was time to think about how a remake of Gilligan’s Island would be cast.  There isn’t a remake that I know of in the works; they just decided to do this for fun.  And their casting is inspired to say the least.  For the part of Gilligan, they selected Michael Cera of “Juno” and “Superbad” fame.  That’s inspired casting.  Who they picked for the Skipper is even better.

That’s right, the original James T. Kirk.  Not only is there a physical resemblance, but the idea of Shatner in this kind of a role would be perfect.  I would only take issue with their choice for Ginger.  I think Laura Prepon (Donna from “That 70′s Show”) would be the ideal Ginger if she lets her red hair come back.  That would mean Ginger would no longer be an airhead movie star, but one that is sassy.  I’d pay to watch this movie.

The Best Animated Christmas specials

Fox News decided to make a list of the Top 10 Christmas movies and I immediately took issue with it. Firstly, the only true “movie” on the list is Tim Burton’s Nightmare before Christmas.  The rest are the animated specials we see on broadcast telelvision.  Secondly, their pick for #1 is the animated Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  Now, I love Chuck Jones and what he did for Bugs Bunny and the gang, so I agree that the Grinch should be on the list, but it shouldn’t be #1.  The #1 chocie should be A Charlie Brown Christmas.  Leaving the biblical element aside, the special’s statement on the commercialization of Christmas is as relelvant today as it was then.  When Santa is sitting side by side with witches and skeletons in October in many department stores, I think a case for the over-commercialization of Christmas can be made.
